La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing support, encouragement, information, and education to all those seeking breastfeeding, chestfeeding, or human milk feeding support.
What We Do
La Leche League helps families by:
Providing free meetings led by volunteer Leaders who are experienced with human milk feeding and accredited through La Leche League International.
Offering support between meetings by phone, email, text, and even through social media.
Helping parents learn about the ages and stages of breastfeeding.
Creating a community of support by bringing nursing families together.
Doing all of this completely free of charge. We do sell memberships to offset the cost of running our Groups and leading meetings, but rest assured, payment is never required to receive help or community.
Who are LLL Leaders?
La Leche League Leaders are:
Parents who have personal experience in breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and/or pumping
Fully trained and accredited by La Leche League International
Able to help with all aspects of chest/breastfeeding
Volunteers who care about you, your baby, and your family.
What most people need in order to breastfeed/chestfeed effectively is accurate information, support, and encouragement. Our meetings foster all three.
LLL meetings usually run in a cycle of four general topics. These are:
The advantages of breastfeeding/chestfeeding, and human milk.
Adjusting to life with a new baby.
Overcoming difficulties and challenges.
Nutrition and weaning.
Remember, with topics so broad and each Group so individual, every meeting is different. People often find their best parent friends at LLL meetings, and come back again and again not just for information and support, but for the community.
LLL meetings can be viewed as a buffet of ideas. Each parent is welcome to take what works for them and their family and leave the rest behind. A typical LLL meeting allows plenty of time for questions, and parent-to-parent sharing in a warm and supportive atmosphere.
We are here to help support you as you determine, work toward, and even surpass your nursing goals. There is no right or wrong way to be a parent, and you can come to meetings whether you nurse for 2 days, 2 years, supplement, pump, combo feed etc.
Expectant, new, and experienced nursing parents all attend La Leche League meetings. Babies are always welcome. Some Groups schedule additional meetings for couples and parents of toddlers.
